The 'Private Practice' project, is a client project that the team at Zed Labs is currently working on - our biggest and most impactful so far.

This post shares insight into how the development of the project is progressing.

We previously delivered The King Of Pi Mall project - An awesome e-commerce platform with payments powered by the Pi Network token/cryptocurrency(Pi) to another client. Follow this link to read the story of how we built that project into an awesome masterpiece.

'Practice Practice' - as the project is called, is a purpose-built freelance platform that is set to make key impact within The Nigerian(and by extension, the global) tech space. Even though not without challenges(just like in every other project), We at Zed Labs are excited about being a part of it.

As you might have noticed, I'm unfortunately not able to share too much information about the project just yet. This is due to our binding commitment to ethical standards, that are to be kept on client projects that are still in progress. While this article does not detail everything about the project, it dives into some very interesting aspects of the project - chronicling the scale of what we've been working on, our expertise, and the culture at Zed Labs. I do hope you find it very interesting.

Feel free to read the King Of Pi Mall project story for a more complete all-out tale on how we built and shipped a special client project into the blockchain e-commerce space.

About the project: What the client wanted.

The project as expected, involves delivering the complete(fullstack) web aspect of a multi-tenant freelance platform, while also collaborating with an external mobile engineer to deliver the mobile app aspect of its front-end.

The client's brief was to build a freelance platform that would connect freelancers with clients who need their services. The platform would be a one-stop shop for all things freelance - but targeted at only a specific niche market.

Think Upwork or Fiverr, but for only one niche/domain and with some interesting additions. Some of the platform's features include:

  1. Job listings + freelancer/client profiles - as expected.
  2. Messaging(both text, audio, and likely video).
  3. Payments.
  4. Real-time location tracking - and more.

To make things more cool, we're building custom implementations for all those features - only making third-party integrations where absolutely necessary.

Our understanding of what the client wanted was clear. Prior to us getting on board, the project already had quite some planning and work in place, hence it was one we believed we could handle without much hassle.

An Initial Back-Story.

Similar to the other client project we delivered, this project had some progress, but was facing a number of challenges, which we're having to fix up in our bid to make another outstanding delivery.

Two of our project so far at Zed Labs have been client projects that faced challenges before the clients contacted us. Real issues which we had(and continue) to undo in our efforts to deliver awesome masterpieces.

One reason for these common issues as I've observed overtime, is the client's failure to use/hire quality talent.

Hiring quality talent remains a global issue, but we can help you solve that at Zed Labs by handling your hiring processes and connecting you with top talents from all around the world. Tech Stack Used.

As usual, all our project at Zed Labs are built with state-of-the-art technologies. We're intentional about only giving our clients the best services for their money. It means a lot that they entrusted us with delivering their projects.

The core project build consists of two stand-alone front-end clients with 3(multi-tenant) dashboards, and a microservices-based backend.

1. The Front-end.

The project's front-ends are being built using ReactJs and NextJs with - TailwindCSS for styling. This combination remains our default choices for front-end development at Zed Labs. State management is currently being handled with Redux-Toolkit, plus Axios and SWR for data fetching and revalidation.

Headless UI is our preferred UI Library. It's simple and perfect with just enough components to help us fast-track UI development in the needed areas.

2. The Backend.

The Backend consists of multiple microservices being built with Typescript(NodeJs/ExpressJs) and Rust.

3. Cloud/Infra and Deployments.

For cloud service, AWS remains our go-to choice at Zed Labs.

I wrote an article on why we prefer to use AWS as our cloud service provider at Zed Labs. Check it out here.

4. Payment Integration.

For payment integration, our choice has been Paystack. Just in case you don't know Paystack, Paystack is a stripe company, that has been making massive strides in the African payment/fin-tech space.

The Zed Labs Team And The Process.

Every project with our awesome team of 3 'marines' is beautiful. I must however confess, that it's been quite challenging thanks to being a new software and design agency that is currently striving to make it's mark.

As usual, I led the development of the front-end, with support from our awesome junior front-end developer Powell Ikechukwu - a simple soul that I'm deeply glad to have as a partner.

I'm currently the sole engineer on the backend of the project while handling all cloud engineering chores and a lot more.

I am also responsible for making all system design, architectural and DevOps decisions on the project as it stands.

Where we are at currently.

After all the work to this point, we're at a very crucial stage of the project. We hope to ship a working product within the next couple weeks. I'll do well to share another beautiful story once that's done.

I do believe you love reading our project stories. I hope they inspire you and help you become better - especially if you're an entrepreneur or an engineer - more particularly if you're currently building a business/startup or an agency like Zed Labs.

Conclusion.

That will be it for this project story. I hope you had a great time reading.
